From Automation to Autonomy: 5 Imperatives for Agentic Procurement

As AI has become increasingly intertwined in procurement workflows and ever more embedded in spend management systems, opportunities to automate work have crept closer to the point of true autonomy.

Given the potential implications of autonomous spend management, leading procurement teams are being challenged to consider the quality of the data and networks underpinning their workflows, how they will measure agentic AI’s business impact, and getting the right fit between those agents and the organization they support.

In this AOP Live session, we were joined by Miriam O’Connor, CPO at Coupa, and Jason Kim, Senior Director of Product Management at Coupa, to explore 5 agentic imperatives that are directly connected to procurement’s transition from automation to autonomy.

They answered live questions about:

  • How custom AI agents can help work and insight to flow from procurement to finance to supply chain
  • Ways agentic AI can bridge the gap between the moment of intake and downstream spend management while allowing requests to be more than just transactions
  • The reality that procurement tech stacks have become increasingly complex, requiring a new approach to measuring both adoption and ROI
